Hi my name is uncomfortable, and you are?

Updated: Jun 5, 2023

Hi my name is uncomfortable, and you? This is literally how I feel like introducing myself at EVERY NETWORKING EVENT. LOL.

Today, I want to dive deep into the world of pursuing our passions and building successful careers. Let's face it—we all have aspects of our work that make our hearts sing, and others that leave us feeling less than enthusiastic. And you know what? That's totally okay! 😅

Speaking from my own experience as The Motivating Coach, I find immense joy in the creative, fun, and happy moments of my work. Connecting with clients on a genuine level and building strong relationships light up my world. It's where I feel most alive and in my element! ✨ However, when it comes to navigating a room filled with suits and egos, my interest tends to wane. It's just not my cup of tea. 🙈 The empty small talk, lack of active listening, and uncomfortable nervousness...I'm sure you can relate!

But here's the truth—I thrive on authentic connections, devoid of hidden motives. Engaging in conversations with people from all walks of life brings me pure bliss! 💬 So, whenever I find myself in a situation where authenticity is lacking, or when I feel I'm not fully expressing myself, I tend to avoid it like the plague. However, avoiding networking altogether won't help The Motivating Coach thrive, and it won't help you either.

So, how do I push my practice forward if networking isn't my favorite activity? 🤔 Here's my perspective: if we truly desire success and want to bring our dreams to life, we must be willing to step out of our comfort zones and tackle tasks that may not align perfectly with our preferences. Life is all about finding a balance between doing what we love and doing what needs to be done. 💼

While networking may not come naturally to me, I choose to don my networking hat with an open mind. I embrace the discomfort that comes with it because I understand it's an essential stepping stone on my path to success. 💪

You may wonder, why is it worth it? Because success is worth the temporary discomfort. It's worth the moments that challenge us, allowing us to grow and evolve. It's worth venturing beyond our bubbly comfort zones and expanding our horizons. 🌟

Ah, the art of making the uncomfortable bearable! It's a skill worth mastering on our journey to success. Here are some tips and tricks that can help you navigate those uncomfortable moments with grace and ease:

  1. Shift Your Perspective: Instead of dreading the uncomfortable situation, try reframing it in your mind. View it as an opportunity for growth and personal development. Embrace the discomfort as a stepping stone towards achieving your goals.

  2. Find the Silver Lining: Look for the positive aspects within the uncomfortable situation. Is there something valuable you can gain from it? Perhaps it's a chance to learn a new skill, build resilience, or expand your network. Focus on the potential benefits to keep yourself motivated.

  3. Break It Down: Sometimes, the discomfort stems from the overwhelming nature of the task. Break it down into smaller, manageable steps. By tackling one piece at a time, you'll find it easier to navigate through the discomfort and make progress.

  4. Prepare and Practice: If you know you'll be entering an uncomfortable situation, such as a networking event, prepare yourself in advance. Research the event or the people you'll be interacting with. Practice some conversation starters or come up with a list of questions to ask. Feeling more prepared can alleviate some of the discomfort.

  5. Breathe and Stay Present: When faced with discomfort, take a moment to breathe deeply and ground yourself in the present moment. Remind yourself that you have the ability to handle the situation and that it is temporary. Focus on the task at hand rather than getting overwhelmed by future possibilities.

  6. Find Support: Reach out to friends, mentors, or colleagues who have been through similar experiences. Seek their guidance and advice on how to handle the discomfort. Having someone to lean on and share your concerns with can make the journey feel less daunting.

  7. Reflect and Learn: After the uncomfortable experience, take time to reflect on what you've learned and how you've grown. Celebrate your resilience and use the insights gained to navigate future challenges more effectively.

Remember, embracing the uncomfortable is a journey, and it takes time to develop the ability to make it bearable. Be patient with yourself, keep pushing forward, and trust that each uncomfortable moment is contributing to your personal and professional growth.

Let's wholeheartedly embrace the discomfort, my friends, and dance courageously in its midst. Success awaits, and it's ready for us to claim it!
